I have been teaching in the classroom for more than 28 years. I started my teaching career in a third grade classroom, after the teacher retired. The next year I was moved to first grade. I stayed in first grade for 11 years, until my own daughter was a first grader, and the next year moved to second grade. Following that year I became the technology teacher for my school and was in that area for 6 years. I was then moved back to second grade for 6 more years, and now am back in third grade for my third year.
During the time I was the technology teacher, I received my Master of Arts in Instructional Technology. One of the most defining moments of my life, after having my children- two beautiful daughters. Balancing full time teaching, family, and graduate school was quite draining, but I would do it all over again.
While I was teaching in second grade, I discovered lapbooking and have been using it ever since. I have tweaked it a bit for third grade by converting to interactive notebooks. I am not saying I am the world’s best guru in lapbooks or notebooks. But I do believe in them wholeheartedly.
